The Best eSIM for Turkey: UK Roaming Charges Compared and Plans from £0.78

Turkey is one of the UK’s favourite holiday destinations, and one of the most common places to come home to a roaming bill. It looks European on the map, but no UK network treats it that way. Turkey sits outside every network’s Europe zone, so the inclusive roaming you may get in Spain or Greece does not apply the moment you land in Antalya, Dalaman or Istanbul.

This guide covers what each UK network charges in Turkey as of September 2026, what a week’s normal use actually costs, how a Turkey eSIM compares, and then the places worth going once you are connected.

Turkey is not in the Europe roaming zone

Each network files Turkey in a tier above Europe. What that means in practice:

Vodafone puts Turkey in Zone C. You pay £8 a day to use your UK allowance (£6 a day on plans taken out before August 2021), unless you are on one of the plans that includes worldwide roaming.
Three covers Turkey under Go Roam Around the World Extra at £7 a day, with a monthly data cap. Included at no extra cost on Three’s Complete plans.
O2 puts Turkey in Zone 2 of its Data Roaming Bolt Ons. There is no daily rate; data is stopped until you buy a bolt-on at £9 for 1GB, £20 for 3GB or £29 for 5GB. Calls are £3 a minute and texts £1 each outside a bolt-on. O2’s Ultimate plans include Turkey.
EE puts Turkey in its Zone 1 alongside the USA and Australia. Data is blocked until you buy a roaming pass: around £5 for 24 hours or £25 for 7 days, which then lets you use your UK allowance. Without a pass, calls are about £1.66 a minute and texts 76p.

Prices are for pay monthly customers and were checked against each network’s published roaming information in September 2026. Networks change roaming pricing without much notice, so check your own plan before you fly.

What a week in Turkey actually costs

Taking 1GB a day as a sensible working figure for maps, WhatsApp, photos backing up and a bit of streaming, a seven-day trip looks like this:

Turkey happens to be one of the cheapest countries in our range. A 1GB plan valid for seven days is £1.20, and the daily plans start at £0.78 for 500MB. For a fortnight, or a family with three or four phones, the difference against the daily-charge networks runs to well over £100.

How the Turkey eSIM works

An eSIM is a digital SIM built into your phone. You add it by scanning a QR code, keep your UK SIM in place for calls and texts, and let the eSIM handle data. Our Turkey plans run on Vodafone Turkey’s 5G network (nothing to do with your Vodafone UK contract, so no daily charge applies). Every plan is data only with hotspot sharing allowed, so one eSIM can also keep a tablet or a travelling companion’s phone online. Coverage is strong in the cities, along the coast and on the main routes, and extends to many areas of Northern Cyprus depending on local signal.

Before you buy, check three things: your phone is eSIM compatible (most iPhones from the XS onwards and most recent flagship Androids are; our compatibility checker has the full list), it is unlocked from your UK network, and you install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi before you fly. Where to go once you are connected

Istanbul

The skyline is shaped by minarets and palaces, the streets pulse with markets and cafés, and the Bosphorus glitters between them all. Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace are within walking distance of one another in Sultanahmet, and booking timed tickets online on the day saves an hour in a queue. The Grand Bazaar and the Spice Bazaar are best approached with a map open and a translation app ready, because the fun is in getting lost and the data is what gets you out again. Breakfast is the meal to take seriously here: menemen, simit, olives, honey and clotted cream, and as many small plates as the table will hold.

Cappadocia

Fairy chimneys, cave hotels and the dawn balloon flights over Göreme are the reason most people come. The Göreme Open Air Museum holds rock-carved churches with frescoes over a thousand years old. Balloon flights are weather dependent and often confirmed the evening before, so a working phone matters more here than anywhere else in the country.

Antalya and the Turquoise Coast

Konyaaltı beach, the old town of Kaleiçi, and a string of ancient sites within an hour’s drive: Perge, Termessos and the theatre at Aspendos, which still hosts performances. West along the coast, Kaş, Kalkan and Fethiye are the base for boat days and the Lycian Way. Signal along the coast road is good; it thins out on the walking trails, so download offline maps.

Pamukkale and Ephesus

Pamukkale’s white travertine terraces and the ruins of Hierapolis above them make an easy day from the coast or a stop between Antalya and Izmir. Ephesus, near Selçuk, is one of the best-preserved classical cities anywhere, with the Library of Celsus as its centrepiece. Both are hot, exposed sites where you will want to check opening hours and buy tickets ahead.

Can I use my UK phone in Turkey?

Yes, but not at European rates. Vodafone and Three charge a daily fee to use your UK allowance, O2 requires a data bolt-on, and EE requires a roaming pass. Some premium plans (Three Complete, O2 Ultimate, Vodafone’s worldwide roaming plans) include Turkey; check yours before you travel.

What is the best eSIM for Turkey from the UK?

For a typical week, 5GB for 30 days at £5.98 covers most people. Heavy streamers or anyone sharing their connection should take 10GB for 30 days at £8.35. For a short city break, 1GB for 7 days at £1.20 is enough for maps and messaging.

Does the Turkey eSIM include a phone number?

No. It is data only. Your UK number stays live on your existing SIM for incoming calls and texts, and outgoing calls go over WhatsApp or FaceTime.
